Basel Abbas and Ruanne Abou-Rahme: Only sounds that tremble through us

Basel Abbas and Ruanne Abou-Rahme create moving image installations that explore collectivity, memory, and resistance through sampled footage, poetry, and pulsating soundscapes. The exhibition featured Only sounds that tremble through us (2020–22), a three-channel video installation that reinterprets archival footage of communal song and dance from Arab communities in Syria, Iraq, Palestine, and Yemen, asking what it means to archive gesture and sound through embodiment.

The exhibition toured to the Perlman Teaching Museum at Carleton College in winter 2025.
