Leslie Thornton: Begin Again, Again

Leslie Thornton’s early encounters with experimental, structuralist, and cinéma vérité traditions as a student in the 1970s fueled her iconoclastic take on the moving image. Weaving together her own footage and voice with archival film and audio, Thornton exposes the limits of language and vision, while acknowledging the ways that they nevertheless remain central to scientific discourse and narrative in general.

Thornton’s List Center exhibition marked the artist’s first US solo museum exhibition and was accompanied by a catalogue designed by Practise and co-published by MIT List Visual Arts Center, Kunstverein Nürnberg, and Sternberg Press.
